SPELD NSW’s Reading Intervention Course (formerly called the Teacher Certificate Course) is new and improved!
The Reading Intervention Course is SPELD NSW’s specialist course for educators and allied health professionals looking to offer small group and one-on-one tier 3 intervention in reading. This specialist course has new resources, new content and modules to help build your expertise to deliver evidence-based reading intervention for struggling readers.
Course commencing Term 2, 20 April 2026.

The Reading Intervention Course at a Glance
- Format: 100% online and on demand; with access to Community Discussion board
- Cohort intakes: Start at the beginning of each NSW school term working along-side other passionate educators and allied health professionals
- Duration: 6 modules completed over ~3 school terms (access to course materials for 6 months after the course!) and ongoing access to Community Discussion board
- Ideal for: Teachers, literacy leaders, learning support staff, tutors, and allied professionals supporting students with reading difficulties (and parents who are passionate about providing intensive intervention at home)
- Learning modes:Short instructional videos, practical demonstrations, quizzes, planning templates, and guided online discussions

Registration Fees

Complete on-demand modules over 2-3 terms, with weekly microlearning that fits around your schedule. Registration to the Reading Intervention Course includes 12 month SPELD NSW membership!
No specific prior qualifications are required. The Reading Intervention Course is paced to be achievable alongside a full-time role. Intakes run at the start of each NSW school term.
Course fee: $2,250 including GST. 6 month payment plan available.

- Join a termly intake so you have access to a community and learning milestones (while still learning on demand at your own pace).
- Watch and practise with short videos and demonstrations you can replay anytime.
- Check your understanding with quizzes and quick reflections.
- Plan real intervention sessions using ready-to-use templates, then discuss what worked in the discussion forums.
- Submit practical tasks (e.g., short plans or reflections) to consolidate skills.

Who is this course for and what will you learn?
Educators, allied health professionals, learning support staff, interventionists and tutors who want a practical, research aligned model to plan and deliver targeted intervention for students experiencing reading difficulties. You will learn how to understand student data, plan student learning against a scope and sequence and plan and deliver targeted intervention sessions.
