Specific Learning Difficulties Guide for General Practitioners
SPELD NSW is pleased to share our new guide for General Practitioners to help them understand Specific Learning Difficulties (SLDs) in Children. This guide is designed to help GPs recognise the key signs and symptoms of SLDs in children, enabling timely referral and support, and provides step by step advice for families supporting a child with literacy or numeracy difficulties.
Up to 10% of children have persistent difficulties with literacy or numeracy skills known as a Specific Learning Disorder.
SLDs are neurobiological conditions that impact a child’s ability to develop specific academic skills such as reading, written expression, or mathematics.
