SPELD NSW Launches the Teaching Reading in K-2 Webinar Series

SPELD NSW is excited to launch the Teaching Reading in K-2 Webinar Series.

This series of webinars takes some big ideas and packages them up into digestible bite-sized sessions to help K-2 teachers and leaders take the next step in implementing evidence-based reading in their classrooms.

Each session covers a specific topic and aims to give you practical solutions so you can walk into your classroom and implement the literacy instruction with confidence. Each webinar is designed to give you some takeaway resources, models, and ideas for how to best support your K-2 students.

Join us for 1, 2 or all the webinars at our live public sessions. The scheduled time doesn’t work for you? Register and then you can access the recording for 30 days in your own time.

The webinar topics are:

  • How we learn to read
  • The K-2 Literacy Block
  • Teaching New Sound-Spelling Correspondences
  • Teaching how to decode and blend words
  • The Phonics Lesson: I do, we do, you do
  • Irregular words: when words don’t play by the rules!
  • The Daily Review: where the real learning happens!
  • Decoding decodable texts: how to select decodable texts for your readers
  • Planning for partner reading in K-2
  • But which words?  Selecting words for vocabulary instruction
