Overview:
Dr Danielle Colenbrander will present a one-day workshop on evidence-based approaches to reading comprehension instruction, with a focus on the role of oral language skills.

Course materials: A course workbook including all materials will be provided prior to the start of the workshop. Each participant will need to have their own computer or tablet with internet access so that they can access the live webinar.

Completing this course will contribute to 6 hours of NESA Registered Professional Development addressing 6.2.2, 6.3.2, 6.4.2 and 2.5.2 from Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
About the speaker:
Dr Danielle Colenbrander is interested in relationships between spoken language, reading aloud and reading comprehension. She trained as a speech language pathologist at Macquarie University before completing her PhD exploring the role of oral vocabulary in reading comprehension difficulties. She has run studies on reading instruction, vocabulary instruction and morphology instruction, which involved working with teachers and pupils from over fifteen primary schools in Australia and the UK.
About the workshop:
Sessions 1 and 2 will focus on theories of reading comprehension, the skills underlying reading comprehension, and the complexities of reading comprehension assessment.
Sessions 3 and 4 will be practical sessions focusing on methods of instruction that develop and capitalise on the links between spoken language and reading comprehension.
