Professional Learning

SPELD NSW offers professional learning and consulting services for schools, teachers and professionals who work with students with specific learning difficulties or who are interested in evidence-based literacy and numeracy instruction.

At SPELD NSW we are passionate about supporting teachers in developing their professional knowledge and implementing effective and practical teaching strategies to enhance their pedagogy.  

Our courses focus on evidence-based literacy and numeracy instruction and best-practice approaches to teach and support students with specific learning difficulties, like dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia. Courses are suitable for classroom teachers, school leaders, learning support teachers and teachers’ aides, tutors, speech pathologists and other allied health professionals.

Professional Learning Courses

SPELD NSW offers regular public, ticked professional learning courses.  Courses are are run from the SPELD NSW Offices in Parramatta, online, and in locations across Sydney and NSW.  

In 2023, SPELD NSW is excited to offer professional learning courses in Parramatta, Newcastle, Wollongong, Wagga Wagga, Port Macquarie and Dubbo. 

In-School Professional Learning

SPELD NSW is available to run in-school professional learning days, half-days or after school workshops.  For SPELD NSW School Members, we are also able to offer consultation and coaching.

Our approach to In-School Professional Learning is to work with you to define your goals and assess the learning needs of your teachers.  We help you select which of our professional learning courses and resources best meet the needs of your teachers and school.  We also support school executives leading a change journey to implement evidence-based approaches to literacy classroom instruction, individual and small group intervention, and response to intervention frameworks at their school.

UFLI Foundations

UFLI Foundations is an explicit and systematic phonics program that introduces students to the foundational reading skills necessary for proficient reading.

Little Learners Love Literacy®

This workshop is a two-day professional learning course focused on how to teach Little Learners Love Literacy® with fidelity. It aims to prepare teachers to implement evidence-based reading, spelling, phonemic awareness and writing routines in their classroom.
