Phonics Resources

These Decoding Resources have been developed for use by teachers, tutors and parents who are working with students to develop their decoding skills and word reading accuracy.   Beginner readers need lots of practice decoding – graphemes, words, phrases and sentences.   These resources have been developed for Set 1 of the Basic Code of the SPELD NSW Phonics and Morphology Scope and Sequence.   SPELD NSW Members are able to access lots of additional Phonics Resources for the Basic and Extended Code through the Members’ Portal.

Irregular Word Sound Cards

These engaging cards can be used by students to practise reading, sounding out and then writing irregular or partially irregular words.
Having students pay attention to the sounds in all words, including those that are irregular or partially irregular, can help them move these words to their long term memory.
The full set of Irregular Word Sound Cards for the Kindergarten Scope and Sequence are available for SPELD NSW Members through the Members’ Portal.
