SPELD NSW A.G.MPublished: 08/11/2011 SPELD NSW ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Date: 26th March 2012 More information to follow SPELD NSW submission to Productivity Commission Report on National Disability Insurance SchemePublished: 18/08/2011 The SPELD NSW submission to the Productivity Commission on its draft report into disability care and support. The report is proposing, amongst other things, the establishment of an insurance scheme funded through the tax system for the care and support of significantly or severely disabled people. The inclusion of people with learning ‘disabilities’ appears to have passed under the radar and we appear to be one of a few organisations that have addressed learning disabilities and the need for a clear definition and criteria for determining what is "significantly or severely learning disabled". Now DET has made available all the documents that have been issued to schools participating in the trial in the Illawarra and South Eastern Regions of the State. You can read these documents at: http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/studentsupport/programs/schoollearning/index.php. At present we are reviewing the document that will soon be issued called "Positively Engaging Parents". The implementation of the program (if the Minister approves it) aims to engage parents and others in decisions about priorities. This document will be posted as soon as it is reviewed. |
